Government and Defence Estates
An EcoShield is engineered planting that absorbs the pressure wave from a bomb blast, so less of it reaches the people on the other side. On a government or defence estate it protects the public frontage, where visitors and staff arrive from the street.
What an EcoShield does on a public frontage
The public frontage is where an estate meets people with no business inside it: passers-by, visitors waiting to be booked in, staff arriving on foot. It is also the side of the building the host city sees every day, and it is expected to look open. That combination usually leaves the frontage with the least physical protection against a blast of any part of the perimeter.
An EcoShield gives that frontage protection of its own. It is planting built around an engineered structure, tested over four years of trials at Cranfield University, which absorbs blast energy rather than reflecting it.
Where it goes on an estate frontage
Banks of EcoShields sit in the setback between the road and the building line, with gaps wherever people and vehicles need to pass. Your own threat and risk assessment sets the layout. We design to it with your security adviser, working around the sightlines from the guardroom, the views your officers need to keep, and the access your operations depend on.
Protection on the approach to your visitor entrance
Conventional hardening protects the service gate, and your guard force controls who comes through it. The visitors and staff arriving at the visitor entrance and crossing the forecourt are in open ground before they reach a check. An EcoShield gives the public frontage physical protection of its own.
It is a planted barrier with an engineered structure inside, designed to mitigate person-borne explosive threats. It absorbs blast energy, so less of the pressure wave reaches the people behind it. Heights and gaps are set with your security adviser so your guard force keeps a clear view of the approach, and access control carries on exactly as it does now.
Visitors and neighbours see landscaping. The estate presents a calm, open face to the street, without a hint that anyone is expecting trouble.
Where it sits alongside what you have
Hardening stays at the service gate and on the vehicle approach, and the guard force, cameras and access control already on the estate are unchanged. An EcoShield adds the layer the frontage has been missing, so protection against blast reaches all the way from the service gate to the street.
Book an intro call
Thirty minutes against your own estate: what you are protecting, what the site allows, who signs it off, and whether anything is forcing a decision. No deck and no obligation.
If you are writing from a government or defence estate, say so on the form and we will arrange an introduction rather than a sales call.
